Corona virus - Tax News update 23 March 2020

23.03.2020

On 23 March, 2020 the Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has announced additional measures for the protection of the Hungarian economy:

  • Besides cab drivers another 81,480 small entrepreneurs are granted a relief from paying the fixed-rate tax of small entrepreneurs (‘KATA’ in Hungarian) until the 30th of June – the exact list of business activities concerned will be included in a government decree, which will be issued today,
  • Any tax arrears regarding the fixed-rate tax of small entrepreneurs generated before 1 March 2020 are granted a reprieve for payment by the Government until the state of emergency is over, thus it will be sufficient to pay these arrears in the quarter following the end of the state of emergency,
  • Similarly to tourism and catering Hungarian media service providers will be granted a relief from payment of liabilities (probably for their social security contributions) because of their loss of income from advertising,
  • Evictions and impoundments are suspended for the duration of the state of emergency,
  • Enforcement of tax arrears are suspended, existing tax arrears can be paid after the state of emergency is over,
  • Eligibility for Hungarian state-provided maternity leave income (GYES, GYED) that would expire during the state of emergency will be prolonged and maintained.
